Shaw is the main antagonist of the Open Season franchise, serving as the main antagonist of Open Season and Open Season: Scared Silly, the overarching antagonist of Open Season: Call of Nature, and the unseen overarching antagonist of Open Season 2, Open Season 3, and Boog and Elliot's Midnight Bun Run. He is Boog and Elliot's arch-nemesis, Beth's arch-rival, one of the hunters, and Ed and Edna's leader, boss, and best friend. He drives a blue beat up pick truck that has seen better days.

Biography

Beginnings

Shaw has lived alone more than five miles outside of Timberline for an indeterminate amount of time. As Sheriff Gordy comments that he's been "living in the woods too long" it's possible that Shaw once lived closer to town, and later moved out to be closer to the hunting grounds, and less monitored by others. This is supported by his crude "keep out" sign, and the implied sole-construction of his dilapidated shack.

It's also equally as likely that he has lived there for the majority of his life, with the additional possibility that the property once belonged to his (now absent) family. This is supported by the size of the house, making it unlikely that Shaw was the sole constructor, and it only falling into disrepair thanks to his negligence and/or lack of skill. There's also the painted "Shaw" on the side of the mailbox, being that it is unlikely that a first name would go on a mailbox (making it more likely to be a last name).

In non-chronological order, at some point, Shaw came into possession of his truck, and his floatplane, "Jolene". He procured a vanity license plate for his truck, being green with yellow letters that reads: "SHOOT4R". Much like Shaw's house, his truck and plane are in a similar state of disrepair. Notably, Jolene is riddled with bullets, implying her own sordid history. At another point, Shaw hunted the animals that decorate his house, and stored bear skins in his cellar. At another point, Shaw somehow lost his right lateral incisor and it was replaced with a gold tooth. At another point, Shaw gained a reputation as a ruthless hunter and reckless driver. As implied by Beth, "he's at it again!" Shaw has been warned before (possibly many times) by Gordy about his unlawful hunting practices. Gordy, who rolls his eyes and moans, "not again" at Shaw speeding through town after Elliott.

Sometime after the first movie, Shaw recovered his truck and branded it "Shaw's Hunting Tours". He also repaired the bay door and attached various bumper stickers. On the bumper is a dark green sticker with yellow letters which reads: "I H8 BUMPER STICKERS". On the bay door are three each, a brown sticker with yellow letters that says: "I DON'T TRUST ANIMALS", a white with black letters which says: "EAT A VEGETARIAN", and finally, a white sticker which black letters that says: "Coexist" which has been circled and crossed out with red paint. (This likely refers to cohabitation with evolved animals, rather than real life.) Then, likely because of the outlawing of open season, crudely crossed out "Hunting" to say: "Shaw's Hiking Tours" then later included: "and Sign Painting". His license plate has also been changed, now being paper bag brown with black lettering, which reads: "SHOOT' EM" with white sticker tags.

Due to the outlawing of open season, Shaw had to retire Lorraine. At some point, he added an expansion to the cellar of his house to devote a personal bedroom to her, lining the walls with various pictures of him and her.

He leads the town on a hunt for the werewolf.

Personality

Shaw is the goat. He is the only person in the town of Timberline who is not blissfully ignorant of the fact that all the animals that live in the surrounding areas are skinwalkers, who are indeed smarter than humans. Shaw bravely takes on an entire army of them alone, and obviously loses. Shaw lives away from society because he knows the system is rigged and corrupt, and likely only favors the wealthy. He lives alone and lives a peaceful life, hunting the skinwalkers and collecting their heads as trophies

His appearance and demeanor in the first movie is also that of a stereotypical Hillbilly, oftentimes taking his American rights and freedom for granted and being somewhat uneducated.

He is very opprobrious, so he has no regards for the law, hunting in a national park and firing his gun into a crowd, despite being told by Gordy not to. This resulted in Shaw almost getting arrested by Gordy, but he managed to make a clean escape. He is also extremely reckless on the road, driving his truck well over the speed limit, driving in the opposite lane, and careless driving when chasing Elliott through the town.

Shaw with Lorraine

Shaw has a bizarre love for his gun Lorraine, talking to it and even offering it a blanket so it would not be cold. This proves he is a bit mental as he believes his own rifle to be a living being and/or at least passionately obsessed with her.

After a series of incidences, he begins to develop a paranoid belief that animals are becoming as smart as humans and are planning to overthrow mankind and take over the world. This was partially proven true after realizing the former was.

In Open Season: Scared Silly, it is revealed that he has been longtime friends with Ed and Edna, who also serve as his henchmen. It is also revealed at the end that he is allergic to hornets.

Appearance

Shaw is an exceptionally tall, older man of a pale complexion (though slightly flushed) with a shoulder length brown-black mullet and amber eyes. He has straight hair with a spiky top (that becomes a swept bang when wet), and an m-shaped hairline. He has a rectangular face, and some wrinkles such as forehead lines, crows feet, and tear troughs. He has bushy eyebrows with an extended brow ridge, a large hooked nose, and winnfield style facial hair that is a few days overgrown. He has stained. chipped, crooked teeth, with a gold upper-right lateral incisor, and gap between his lower right incisors. He towers over all of the other citizens of Timberline, hunching over to make eye contact. He's of a slender build with almost broad shoulders, supporting a muscular chest. His limbs are proportionate to his height, long and thin. He has hairy arms (which could indicate more unseen body hair), and dirt under his fingernails from his day-to-day life and poor personal hygiene.

He wears a large copper bubble vest over a red flannel shirt, which has had the sleeves rolled up and the bottom tucked in. The shirt has been buttoned up, but the top three appear to be missing. Under that, he wears a worn salmon long-sleeved chunky knit shirt. The collar and wrist edges have become frayed. He wears a black belt with high waisted woodland-camo trousers mostly tucked into brown laced up hunting boots. The shoelaces are mostly in, but the last hook has been neglected. Instead, the laces have been wrapped around the boot and tied in front with a bunny ear knot.

Shaw frequently uses the pockets inside of his vest to store items, such as Elliott's antler or his camera. There's a circular object in Shaw's right back pants pocket
