Biography
Beginnings
The hunters formed as a loyal group of companions. A companionship borne out of necessity and the fear of death. They fought alongside each other in the Vietnam War, finally emerging through the suffering in 1975. But their trauma never died. They acted normal as best they could. Tried to fit back in to a "normal" society. But they never truly fit in. Shaw was constantly seeing things. Dead bodies, dead friends. The war wasn't over for him. Gordy wasn't much better. His trauma induced schizophrenia made him a danger to all around him. He heard things. He saw things. They coped however they could. They needed to feel the soft wood and the cool metal in their hands of their old rifles. They felt a sort attachment to them. Their rifles were their savior in the battlefields bereft of life. So, one day, the hunting began. It helped, sort of. None of them should have really been trusted with a gun, but what more could they do? It made them feel whole again, at least somewhat. The real danger started when the deers they hunted shifted from prey to enemy. The lines between reality and past felt lost. The hunters felt a real fear as they rose their rifles. They were so accustomed to shooting at those who were shooting at them. And, one day, the voices came. Voices from bears. From deers. Everybody knew Shaw and Gordy were crazy, through the stories they would tell and the genuine shakiness in their voice. Gordy was scared worse than any of them. They couldn't stop the hunt, but the hunt changed them. The climax of their traumatic terror came when they encountered Boog, Elliot, and the horrifying McSquizzy. Anyone could see them as what they are. Harmless little animals. But not them. Not Gordy. They looked in their eyes and saw faces that had haunted them in their darkest hours. Two enemy soldiers in particular that had stuck with them, the memories of their rifles barrels pointed at their eyes. Their names were Joseph and Matthew. They died in that war many years ago, but their memories still haunt those lives they changed.
